Instant gratification: satisfactions gained by impulsive behaviours - choosing now over tomorrow.
 

This is a very scary concept because in this day, age and time, we are all sucked into the idea of wanting to be satisfied instantaneously, without much thought.
 
While this has been ingrained in pretty much all societies, it is still a fairly new concept that is gaining momentum through time.
 
Children now grow up with the concept that they would be able to get whatever they want and desire, as long as they can whine long enough, or when they throw a tantrum. Often, parents are quick to buy into and to satisfy their children, supplying them with what they want, as and when they throw a fit.
 
Since we are able to get what we want so easily, we begin to devalue the things that surround us (because things are so easily attainable now than it was before). And its scary because, we now take people and things for granted.
 
When we take people for granted, we allow ourselves and others to be put through the pain of having to earn this and that, before we can attain a certain status or alleviate our position on our friends' lists.
 
Yes, it might be true that some people are always and would constantly be at the top of your list. But think again, did they not work hard enough to attain that status, to be where they are now? Can we be so sure that the friendship or whatever relationship that we hold dear to, is exactly the same as what we are giving to the other?
 
I'm not doubting anyone or anything here, I really am not.
 
I'm just curious to know if we can truly mean the same to others as they are to us.
 
I obviously am no smartie pants and I don't think I'll ever be able to decipher this mystery that I constantly present myself with.
 
Instant gratification is such a scary thing because of our endless desires as human beings. Yet, it gives us a sense of protection, assurance, and a peace of mind because we know, at the back of our heads, that we can in some ways cry out to certain people to lend us a helping hand whenever we are in need of someone.
 
While the concept of instant gratification scares me to no end, it has also presented me with much positivity that I need from time to time, in order to get by.

Home

You know that home is truly where the heart is when you've been away for so long. Having spent 6 weeks away from home, in a foreign land, with no one that I can truly count on, I can only look to Singapore and heave a sigh of relief as I returned to my motherland. The journey to Korea wasn't easy at all, but I made it. And I truly understand that Singapore will be the place I want to be (for now).

I know its not easy for Singapore and Singaporeans alike, to have come this far. And it sucks that many people are still unaware of where or what Singapore is, even though we have the best airport, port (PSA) and was even declared the cleanest city in the world. Its sad that people still cannot seem to recognise us, neither do they know of our existence. (Maybe they live under a rock)

Spending so much time away from home has made me realise that this is where I truly belong, this is where I still want to be for the next years to come.


Despite that, what I hated upon coming home, was the hypercommercialisation of 'SG50'. It has become a brand name that people sell, instead of something that we look upon in awe.

I'm SUPER sensitive towards the over sensationalisation of things after the whole MERS saga and I just cannot bring myself to accept the whole SG50 selling point that has been ongoing.

But then again, Singaporeans are always so sucked into everything they see. They are so blinded by what they are told and they simply refuse to listen to what others really have to say. But how can we blame Singaporeans when we are brought up this way, right?


In any case, Happy Birthday Singapore!

I am really proud of how far you have come in the last 50 years and I look forward to growing with you. Thank you for presenting me with a life time of peace and stability that not everyone is able to achieve, as much as they try. Thank you for being somewhere that I can truly call home.

Resonates

I actually have a certain sense of fear when articles or posts that I see online resonates with how I feel in reality. And I find it pretty amazing, that people do actually think the way that I do (although it freaks me out sometimes). I mean like, sometimes, these thoughts are just meant to stay in your head, to appear at the darkest corners of your mind, to be buried at the subconscious level. But yet, others can be so vocal about it. And it really does scare me a little to know that the world can be a dark, cold and heartless place to be in.
 
This article I saw on Thought Catalog (its like my best friend or something) speaks to my heart. I'm not depressed (I guess so) but this really resonates with how I feel at a personal level, on a regular basis.
 
 
Some of the things that correlate with me:
 
I'm a naturally sad person. I can't help it - it's just who I am. No matter how much fun I may be having, or how happy I may feel, there is a permanent sadness lingering in the back of my mind. But I've learnt to live with it.
 
I've come to terms with the fact that I will never feel as blissful as I once did when I was very young. I will always know too much and feel too much and hurt too much. I have a freakishly broad range of emotions and they can be hard to live with at times. But even though I'm a naturally sad person deep down, it doesn't mean I can't feel acute happiness and intense optimism. I am in a good mood a lot of the time. Even if I'm not, I'm able to get myself there and at the very least appear to be in one.
 
I don't like feeling sad and being in a bad mood and I don't like others to witness me in a bad mood. There is a really fucked up, dark side of me that I don't like people to see.
 
It irks me to see someone in a bad mood and be unable to snap out of it. I can obviously relate to someone who has an unknown source dictating their emotions without their control. It's horribly frustrating and leaves you feeling defeated and broken.
 
It is what no one can see. They don't see how I am when I'm by myself. They don't see any dark thoughts.
 
Just because you don't see the darkness and gloominess on the outside, doesn't mean it doesn't exist somewhere deep on the inside.
 
Those who can feel the saddest and most fucked up feelings can also experience the most joyful and elated feelings. I appreciate what is around me more, and I can sympathise more with others who are in pain. Pretty much, you don't have to appear wounded on the outside to actually be wounded on the inside. I'm happy, I'm positive and I'm optimistic.
 
The world is both a beautiful yet hauntingly dark place. And we have to choice but to accept that.

sometimes I wish people were more sensitive towards others cause it kills them inside to be at the losing end.
 
I mean like, there are times when we can just voice our opinions or thoughts (in a nice way of course) but we don't. We just keep it to ourselves thinking that "oh, they will understand. I have others things to do now and this is not important (or is not of priority)."
 
No, it's not nice and it's definitely not proper etiquette at all.
 
I'm not trying to be calculative here or be a complete bitch and throw a bitch fit because it's stupid and useless and because nobody gives a flying shit.
 
I just wish we could be a little more sensitive towards others' feelings. We're all humans, we're all made to err. And I understand (from time to time).
 
No man is an island, we do not live on our own. And as much as I wish to be able to lend a helping hand from time to time (whatever the situation), I feel that I'm not needed in the first place. And it's sad, it really is, because I've placed people in important places, but I don't seem to be getting the same in return. 
 
I also don't seem to be able to understand 자 and their inability to reject or salvage a situation because what can be resolved with them opening their mouth can actually result in much angst because they refuse to open their golden lips.
 
Oh well, I guess I just have to learn how to adapt to things and situations better.

Now&Then

There were many points in time when I wanted to blog about something, but it never happened because the school kept blocking Blogger. I don't understand why, and I guess I never would, neither do I really care now that I'm in the comfort of home.
 
I've forgotten about what I wanted to blog about, but that doesn't really matter for now. I'm so happy to finally be home, and I wouldn't trade this feeling for the world. Home is truly where the heart is. :)
